Ephesians: The Mystery of God

I. Opening Song

Song: “Heart Won’t Stop”

II. Call To Worship

Reading: Psalm 97

Call: This is the Word of the Lord.

Response: Praise be to God

Song: “Jesus Is Better”

 Song: “Have Mercy On Me”

III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

Lord, your faithfulness is unfathomable, your mercy is unending, and your love is unfailing. If it were not so, we would vanish before your holiness like a web to the flame. For sin has wrapped its cords around our hearts and has led us into the darkness of bitterness and envy. The jealousy of others has paved the path under our feet, and disdain has led us like a cruel master, causing us to despise those who most remind us of ourselves. Love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness seem as distant shadows, while the dissensions and divisions waging war within are all too real. Oh Lord, how we require your mercy, for we are undone apart from your steadfast love. We need your grace, for we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. Hear our cries, Lord, and have mercy on us.

Response: Father, forgive us.

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Church, though our hearts wander like a moth to the flame, and our affections are tossed back and forth in the chaos of our sin, we have a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul. We have a hope that will not be moved, for the atoning work of Jesus Christ washes away the vilest of offenses, cleanses the most depraved of sinners, and clothes the rebellious with the robes of righteousness. Yes, Church, Jesus Christ, the unique God-man, took your sins upon himself, bore them in his body and nailed their damning effects to the cross! By the power of the gospel you have been given new life, you have been ushered into the unrelenting love of the triune God.  He has marked you as his own because of the covenant faithfulness of the High Priest and King who died and gave himself for you. Church, this is good news! So now hear these words as faithful and true, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you, your sins are forgiven!

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: “Jesus Paid it All”
