III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

Oh Lord, how the storms of chaos have raged within our minds and souls. Peace appears to be nothing more than a vapor; we long for it yet struggle to rest in its brilliance. Hostility has become an old friend, and we have received its embrace. We build walls of hostility around our lives, and from within, we have eaten the bread of bitterness and drank from the cup of malice. Your word tells us to extend grace, but we have allowed resentment to festered toward those who have wronged us. Anger toward those who have offended us burns within our hearts, causing us to neglect the love that comes from your hand. With our words, actions, and thoughts, we fracture the unity you have purchased with your blood. Lord, we need your peace, we need your unifying grace, and we need your forgiveness. So we come to you now seeking your mercy.

Response: Father, forgive us.

Song: Your Mercy”

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Church, when the waves of chaos crash against your life, when bitterness and anger, depression and anxiety grip your mind, remember this powerful truth: Jesus is your peace. Jesus is your peace. The one who calms the winds and the waves with nothing but a word is the one who stills the turmoil of your hearts. Do not be anxious, for Christ has taken your trouble and buried it in the grave. He has taken hold of the wandering emotions that paralyze your consciousness and has stilled them in his perfect, steadfast faithfulness. Yes, Church, sin’s rage has been stripped of its grip upon your hearts, and the chaos of the curse has been nailed to the cross. For in his grace and mercy, he has given you his peace; a peace that passes all understanding, and a peace that extends to every corner of your life. Fear has been cast out, and the love of God has been sung over you by the voice of the Beloved. So lift up your hearts and hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven!

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: Living Hope”
