Ephesians: The Mystery of God

I. Opening Song

Song: ”Death Was Arrested”

II. Call To Worship

Reading: Psalm 99

Call: This is the Word of the Lord.

Response: Praise be to God

III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

Lord, you have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing, and you have over and over lavished your grace upon us. Yet our response is not as it should be, it's not one of gratitude, but one of selfish disdain. We snark at your electing grace, and we recoil from the notion of your predestining love. Our arrogance is equaled only by our ignorance, and this ignorance testifies against us when we fail to bow before you in praise for the glorious grace of your redemption. Our selfish ambitions refuse to be humbled, and the pride of our hearts deny our need for forgiveness. Lord, we come to you now acknowledging our proud hearts, and we confess our arrogant confidence that has time and again led us into ignorant rebellion. Lord, we come to you now confessing our desperate need for your grace, and we seek your forgiveness by the blood of the cross.

Response: Father, forgive us.

Song: O Come To Altar”

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Church, we have this great hope that even though our sins are odious, we serve a God who has has a storehouse of mercy for sinners like you and me. Before the foundation of the world, by grace alone, he chose you to be adopted as a child into his family. Through his shed blood, he redeemed you from the slavery and penalty of sin, and through the abundance of his grace, he has forgiven you your sins. He has removed the garments of your iniquities and has clothed you with the vestments of holiness.  Church, the glorious grace of our Lord and Savior, has indeed been lavished upon us and has called to no longer live as guilty sinners, but as sons and daughters of the most high God! Therefore lift up your hearts and hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: There Is A Fountain”
