I. Opening Song
Song: ”Come Thou Fount”
II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 47
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “O Come To The Altar”
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Have mercy on us, oh God, according to your unshakable love. Lord, we need you to blot out our transgressions for we have sinned against you. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. For we know our transgressions and our sins are ever before us. For we have sinned against you and have done what is evil in your sight. Lord, our eyes have wandered, and our hearts overflow with lust. Our affections have been drawn toward the filth of the foulest offenders. And our thoughts have strolled hand in hand with hate, bitterness, and anger. Oh Lord, in your grace and truth we have failed to trust, and the wages of our sins demand that we return to the dust. Lord, we pray that you create in us clean hearts, and renew a right spirit within your people. By the cleansing power of Christ, we confess our sins.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “I Surrender”
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Church, we come to the throne of grace with the stains of death upon our clothes, our hearts of stone drip with guilt, and the stench of shame on our breath. We deserve nothing, we earn nothing, and we can say nothing that could gain us righteousness. However, the righteousness of God has been brought to us apart from our own doing. For the one who sits on the throne of grace has stepped down from the majesty on high to clothe us in his own robes of righteousness; he has removed our guilty hearts of stone and has created in us new hearts. For he has breathed in us the breath of life, thus raising us from the ashes of death. He has ushered us into his presence not as servants but as a redeemed bride. For the sins that once held you damned have been removed as far as the east is from the west. For if you are in Christ, you are a new creation formed from the side of our Savior. Church, you are the bride of Christ so hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.
Response: Praise be to God!
Song: “Death Was Arrested”
