The Book of James

I. Opening Song

Song: ”Even So Come”

II. Call To Worship

Reading: Psalm 24

Call: This is the Word of the Lord.

Response: Praise be to God

Song: How Great Thou Art”

III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

Lord, we become so impressed with that which evaporates in the presence of your glory. We long for the riches of this world, we crave that which is detestable and forsake that which is holy.  Afraid of discomfort we affirm the very things you oppose. Oh God, rather than trust our lives in your sovereign hand, we place our confidence in the withered rags of possessions and the wilted promises of corrupt men. We have trusted in what the world offers because we have not feared you, and we have not feared you because foolishness abounds in our hearts. Lord, we are reminded of our need for your grace, so we come to you now confessing our sins.

Response: Father, forgive us.

Song: Your Mercy”

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Church, though foolishness abounds in our hearts, leading us away from the fear of the Lord, Wisdom himself put on flesh to deliver you from the shackles of imprudence. For the wisdom of God has brought with him a glory that cannot be tarnished, and a hope that will not fade. The hope of the gospel is that Jesus has taken upon himself the ignorance of our depravity, the stain of our arrogance, and the guilt of our pride. He bore these sins in his body so that you might receive the imperishable glory that radiates from the throne room of God.  For in Christ you are among the redeemed, your sins are atoned, and the due punishment of your pride has been nailed to the cross. May this be your confidence, that Christ has died in your place, and he has raised you to new life. Hear these words, Church; by the great and powerful name of Jesus, I declare to you that your sins have been forgiven.

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: Death In His Grave”
