II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 118:26-29
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “10,000 Reasons”
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Lord, it is so foreign to us, the notion that in your presence there is no distinction between the Upon the cross we are confronted with the depth of our depravity, we feel the weight of our wickedness and see the severity of our sin. Lord, we are undone before your holiness, we are unworthy of your grace, and your mercy contains a beauty we do not deserve. For we are a people who actively sin against you, our thoughts run wild with notions of lust, hate, bitterness, and envy. Our actions testify against us as we bow before the evil impulses of our hearts and attempt to justify an untamed tongue. Oh lord, our whole being has rebelled against your righteousness; mind, body, and soul stands condemned. So we plead for your forgiveness by the atoning work of Christ.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “I Need Thee Every Hour”
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Church, though lust, hate, bitterness, and envy wage war within our souls, though we fail to image our Lord with our thoughts, words, and actions, we stand not alone in our guilt and shame, instead we stand secure, redeemed by the power of Christ. And if this is true, who can bring any charge against God’s elect? Who can point the finger at the bride of Christ and call her condemned? For the great king, Jesus Christ has taken upon himself her shame, her guilt, her condemnation, and her brokenness. He has received your sin and crucified it upon the cross, and buried it in the grave. And by the power of the Holy Spirit, he raised you to a new life where no power in heaven or on earth or under the earth can separate you from the love of God. So Church, hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.
Response: Praise be to God!
Song: “Blessed Assurance"

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
