I. Opening Song
II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 47
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “Great Are You Lord”
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Oh Lord, we are a confused people. The echo of our ignorance to our ears sounds like wisdom, the reflection of our jealousy to our eyes looks like humility. We pursue the desires of our flesh with little hesitation, and when we struggle to find satisfaction, we fight and quarrel with murderous intentions. We have ignored your love, and have whored after another. We are reminded of your grace through your faithful presence, yet we abuse such a gift and exercise our selfish passions with license. Though we are blind, wandering in darkness, the light of your glory calls us to your presence. We come to you as men and women who drip with guilt and are in need of your mercy. So by the power of the cross, we confess our sins and seek your forgiveness.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “How Deep The Fathers Lover For Us”
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Though we drip with the guilt of our sin, and we fear the light of his holiness, Jesus has entered into the darkness of our depravity and has called us to himself. The sin scarred hands of Christ have taken hold of you, he has washed away your guilt and has cleansed you from the stench of your shame. He has come near to you and calls you his own. His covenant faithfulness is everlasting, his redeeming grace is abounding, and his restorative mercy is astounding. Church, though the passions of your flesh wage war within your soul, do not forget who you are, who he has declared you to be; you are the wife and bride of the Lamb, you are holy saints, partakers of his glory, you are the imago Dei, you are loved, and you are precious in the sight of our King. You are a forgiven people, redeemed by his love and forgiven through his blood. Church hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.
Response: Praise be to God!
Song: “This Is Amazing Grace”
