I. Opening Song
Song: “Love Shines"
II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 8
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “Hallelujah What A Savior"
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Lord, your word tells us to follow the example of the prophets. Men who stood boldly for what is right in the face of evil, these men followed your call even when the path took them through the valley of the shadow of death. God, you tell us to look to these men as examples; to live our lives in a way that echoes their devotion to you. However, we struggle to walk the path of righteousness, we stumble and fall, we quarrel and fight. Rather than dying to self and following you, we lust after that which we do not have; we covet that which we cannot obtain. We have befriended the world and thus have enmity with you. We long after what the world offers, and have despised your path of righteousness as enemies. You have called us into your holy presence, into your sanctuary, we need our minds, our hearts, our affections and desires to be focused on you. So we confess our sins to you this morning and plead for forgiveness on the basis of the atoning sacrifice of Christ.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “How Deep The Fathers Love For Us"
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Jesus is our hope. We confess our sins together each week because we have this excellent hope, though we stumble, Jesus Christ has atoned for our sins and is able to reach beyond the rubble of our brokenness to save those who come to him. And even today Jesus Christ lives to intercede for his people. Because of this glorious truth, Jesus has washed you, and he has redeemed you. He has justified you, and he has reconciled you to God. Jesus has made you a new creation and has given you a hope that rushes upon your soul, there are no sins that can stop it, and there are no powers of evil that can slow it down. This hope that we have is that Jesus Christ has forgiven you of all your sins, he has removed them as far as the east is from the west. So church, here these words and hope in this glorious truth of the gospel: by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven!
Response: Praise be to God!
Song: “Jesus Paid It All"
