II. Call To Worship
Reading: Philippians 2:5-11
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “Drenched In Love”
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Sin has not only the curse that makes us guilty, but it is also the destruction of honor that brings shame. The shame of sin is what caused Adam and Eve to hide themselves from God, the shame of sin is what led Isaiah to say with fear and trembling, “I am a man of unclean lips.” It is the shame of sin that keeps us from confessing our sins to one another and causes us to recoil before the throne of grace. We live our lives behind the fig leaves of arrogance and pride, not wanting anyone to see how weak we really are. All day long our disgrace is exposed before a holy God, and shame is on our face. God, we need you to rescue us from the shame of sin that rots our bones, we need you to cleanse us from the stain of sin. So we come now to confess our sins before you.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “All The Poor And Powerless"
IV. Assurance of Pardon
God sees us in the nakedness of our shame. Figleaves and darkness cannot hide sin’s stain before his eyes. He sees us for who we are. And the good news of the gospel is that he has not left us in our shameful state. He has removed the figleaves and dressed us in the righteous garments of Jesus’ sacrifice. He has taken us from the dark corners of shame and brought us into the light and has adopted us as sons and daughters. God has taken our shame and given us his joy. He has removed the stains that would keep us far away and has brought us near having washed us by the blood of the lamb. This is the power of the gospel, to take that which was despised and make it holy. Church, hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that you shame is gone, for your sins have been forgiven!
Response: Praise be to God!

Song: “10,000 Reasons”
Call: Hebrews 12:1-2,
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
