I. Opening Song
II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 29
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “Hallelujah What A Savior”
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Our hearts and minds naturally revolt against the truth. We are afraid of truth as it exposes our sinful habits like a spotlight exposes spiderwebs in an attic. So we avoid the truth and continue to weave webs of deceit and dishonesty seeking to vindicate ourselves in our own minds and in the minds of others. We lie in our speech, and we lie in our actions, we lie to ourselves, and we lie to God. We lie so that we might hide, and we lie so that we will fit in and not be exposed for who we really are. For who would accept a wretch like you and me? If we are honest, we risk rejection, but if we lie we hide for one more moment in the dark corners of our sin. Oh God, we bring nothing to you but a heart full of lies and deceit. We have heard your call, and it reminds us of our need to repent, so we confess our sins before you this morning.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “All I Have Is Christ"
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Who would accept a wretch like you and me? The Christ, the Son of the Blessed has come to expose the hearts of man. He has come to destroy the power of sin as a roaring fire dissipates a spider's web. The Christ has come not only come to destroy the power of sin, but he has come to redeem those who are entangled in its deceit. By the blood of his cross and through the power of his resurrection Jesus has begun to make all things new. He is himself the truth that disintegrates all shame, all guilt, all slavery. He is the Christ who has set his people free to live in the freedom of grace and in the light of the truth. Church, Jesus has done this for you. So by the great and powerful name of Jesus, I declare to you; your sins are forgiven.
Response: Praise be to God!
