Worship The King: Advent In The Psalms

I. Opening Song

Song: ”O Come, All Ye Faithful”

II. Call To Worship

Reading: Isaiah 9:1-7

Call: This is the Word of the Lord.

Response: Praise be to God

Song: How Great Thou Art”

III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

Our sins, O God, are not hidden from you; you know how rebellious we have been. In our thoughts, oh Lord, we have sinned against you and your people. We have plotted in vain to hide our sins from your sight. The shame of our evil thoughts, if exposed, would be more than we could bear. If our motives were revealed, we would be undone. For when we hide from your presence, we despise your grace, we rage against your mercy, and we seek to burst apart your covenant faithfulness. Lord, let us not hide but pursue us, break us and mold us and bring us into your presence. Show us the horrible weight of our sins so we might run to you in pursuit of mercy.

Response: Father, forgive us.

Song: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Church,  your sins are not hidden from the eyes of God, and for us, this is good news.  The Love of God is fierce; he will turn over every stone and illuminate every dark corridor of your heart to expose the scorch of sin’s flame. He does not leave us in this place of despair. Instead, by the power of the gospel he has taken his people from the ashes of sin and has formed for himself a bride, he justifies her, purifies her, sanctifies her, and glorifies her. She is made entirely new, for the old has been conquered by the great king, and by the blood of the cross and the power of the resurrection, the new has come. Church, hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: Drenched In Love"

25 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages 26 but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— 27 to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ!
