Worship The King: Advent In The Psalms

I. Opening Song

Song: Joy Of The World"

II. Call To Worship

Reading: Psalm 111

Call: This is the Word of the Lord.

Response: Praise be to God

Song: O Come All Ye Faithful"

III. Confession

Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:

God, this week we have wandered from your commandments. We have refused to call wisdom our sister and we have refused to name insight among our friends. We have misused your gifts as tools for our destruction. With our foolish eyes we have looked to our own way and thought it right. With our itching ears, we have turned away from listening to truth. With our mouths, we have attacked our brothers and sisters and violated our covenant. Our speech was as smooth as butter but war was in our hearts; our words were as soft as oil but we used them like swords. We have folded our hands to rest when we should have opened them to someone in need. Our hearts have devised wicked schemes and our feet have made haste towards evil. We confess to you our sins and we plead for your loving mercy and your perfect grace.

Response: Father, forgive us.

Song: All I Have Is Christ"

IV. Assurance of Pardon

Corporate Call:

Jesus created us in the shadow of His image and calls us to be the radiance of His glory on earth as the church and to be submitted to His likeness more each day. And yet by a man came death, in Adam all die. The unwashed sins of God's people persisted under the law and, since the garden, sinners have needed rescue from sin’s continuing effects by a worthy sacrifice and a renewal of His created order by a King whose power is unmatched. God, sent forth his Son to set right our condition. He came as King, the rightful authority of heaven and earth, full of grace and truth and able to save to the uttermost; and as Priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens, doing once for all the sacrifice that would render all other sacrifice unnecessary. Church, in Jesus, there is no weakness or shadow of change. He and he alone pardons sin and keeps forever the perfect covenant of bridegroom and bride. He is our God, and we are his people. Church, bride of Christ, hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus, I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.

Response:  Praise be to God!

Song: I Will Not Fear"
