I. Opening Song
II. Call To Worship
Reading: Psalm 113
Call: This is the Word of the Lord.
Response: Praise be to God
Song: “Better Is One Day"
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24,
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Lord, you are the glorious King, the first and the last, the inexhaustible one. You are exalted and are worthy of all our praise. You have brought us to yourself, and have sent us out to be your ambassadors in a world that is in need of your grace. Though we believe we are your representatives, our lives tell a different story. We represent our own interests before we consider your ways. We exalt ourselves rather than bowing before your majesty, we turn our heads and pursue the things that have already captured our hearts. God we confess we have not beheld your glory, we have not rested in your grace, nor found comfort in your unfailing love. We have lived like rebels in the King’s land, and knowing this to be true, we come before you asking for your grace.
Response: Father, forgive us.
Song: “Come Thou Fount"
IV. Assurance of Pardon
Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, has seen your rebellion, he has seen your wicked hearts, and he has seen your perverse minds. Our depravity did not drive him away, rather, because of our sinful state, Jesus, the very Word of God, put on flesh and dwelt among us. He came to a people who were not able to save themselves, and he came bringing with him the oracles of God and the divine mystery that leaves angels scratching their heads. Jesus came to unite himself with a sin-stained bride whom the Father had given him. He took upon himself her curse; as the faithful husband, he died for his bride so she would not have to perish. And in his death, he absorbed all her sin, all her perversion, all of her wickedness and shame. And upon his resurrection, he poured out his divine grace thus purifying her and giving her new life. Church this is what Christ has done for you. So hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven.
Response: Praise be to God!
