I. OPENING
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
II. CALL TO WORSHIP
Reading: Psalm 113
Call: THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD.
Response: THANKS BE TO GOD!
Song: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Song: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Corporate Call:
Lord, we confess that we have grievously sinned against you in word, thought, and deed. Not only in outward transgressions, but also in secret thoughts and desires that we are unable to fully understand, but which are all known to you.
Lord, we have rebelled against your holy commandments. We have failed to love you and we have failed to love one another. Our selfish hearts have been consumed with the idols of this world, and our minds have wandered into the darkness of our depravity. We are in need of deliverance from our enemies and the strongholds that ensnare our fickle hearts.
For this reason we run to your infinite mercy and seek your forgiveness. In the name of Jesus our Redeemer, hear our cry!
Response: Father, forgive us.
IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.
Brothers and sisters, lift up your hearts for the great and mighty king, who is full of grace and mercy, whose faithfulness extends to a thousand generations, whose love is deeper than the deepest sea, and whose glory outshines the stars of heaven, this God, this king, has taken you out of the darkness of your sin and has brought you into the glorious light of his majesty. He has washed you clean of your sins, he has sanctified you in his Spirit, and he has Justified you in his Son. He has marked you as his own through the power of the Spirit and the waters of baptism and has promised to redeem, renew, and restore you who have fallen into sin.
So lift up your hearts and hear these words, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you, your sins are forgiven!
Response: Thanks be to God!
Song: Hallelujah (What An Advent Savior)
