Liturgy Guide - October 20th
I. OPENING
Song: Come, Thou Fount
II. CALL TO WORSHIP
Reading: Psalm 96:1-5
Call: THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD.
Response: THANKS BE TO GOD!
Song: How Great (Psalm 145)
Song: He Will Hold Me Fast
III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Corporate Call:
Lord, we are convicted of our deep and grievous sins against you. Our transgressions have not been limited to outward actions but have also manifested in the hidden recesses of our hearts and minds.
We confess with heavy hearts how quickly we have turned away from your grace. Instead of fleeing from sin, we have eagerly pursued the desires of our flesh. Impatience, envy, and greed have taken root within us, consuming our affections and leading us astray. Lord, and we recognize that without your grace, there is only death. In the absence of your presence, despair grips and holds, and guilt crushes us to dust.
For this reason, We humbly come before you, seeking refuge in your infinite mercy. So in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, hear our cry.
Response: Father, forgive us.
IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.
Beloved, once lost but now found, once dead but now alive. Almighty God, the maker of heaven and earth, the risen and ascended Christ has achieved all there is to accomplish to fully forgive and restore you who have fallen into sin.
My friends, your sins may be great, but God's grace is greater still! Where sin abounds, His grace abounds even more. The extravagant love of God has been lavishly poured upon you in Christ, the glorious Savior. He has redeemed and reconciled you, sealing His eternal promise through His Spirit. The cross and the empty grave proclaim that sin and death have no hold on you, for you belong, body and soul, life and death, to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
Church, This is good news! So lift up your hearts and hear these words: by the great and powerful name of Jesus, I declare to you, your sins are forgiven!
Response: Thanks be to God!
Song: No Longer Slaves
V. SERMON
2 John 1-13
The Battleground of Love
Sammie Hargrave, Pastoral Resident
