Liturgy Guide - October 6th
I. OPENING
Song: Rise Up, O Men of God
II. CALL TO WORSHIP
Reading: Psalm 33:1-9
Call: THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD.
Response: THANKS BE TO GOD!
Song: The Son Of God Goes Forth To War
Song: Psalm 46 (Chant)
III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Corporate Call:
Lord, your faithfulness is unfathomable, your mercy is unending, and your love is unfailing. And we praise you that this is so, for we come before you once again in need of your grace. The chains of our sin weigh heavy upon our shoulders. The bonds of our depravity have kept us from hoping in the promises of your word. Rather than walking in the freedom you have purchased for us, we have lived as slaves to sin. We have fed the habits of death rather than feasting on the freedom of your grace.
Yes, Lord, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. For these reasons we now run for refuge to the storehouses of your mercy, seeking and imploring your forgiveness and deliverance, so in the name of Jesus Christ, our redeemer. Hear our cry!
Response: Father, forgive us.
IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.
Beloved, do not stay in the chains of your sin but rather press into the freedom of the eternally gracious and merciful God!
In Christ we have a hope that will not be moved, we have a foundation that cannot be shaken, and we have a freedom that will not be taken. For Christ is the Redeemer, he is the victor, he is our high priest and he is our King! He took your sins upon himself, bore them in his body and nailed them to the cross! By the power of the gospel, you have been given new life in Christ. And this is good news!
Church, lift up your hearts and hear these words, The redeemer who has set you free has declared this day, Your sins are forgiven!
Response: Thanks be to God!
Song: A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
V. SERMON
Mark 9: 14-19
C. R. Wiley, Guest Speaker
