III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:
Lord, fear has rattled our hearts. The voices that echo in our minds are voices of despair, worry, and self-preservation. You tell us not to fear, for you have overcome the world, yet fear has gripped our hearts.  Hope and courage seem to dissolve as we rehearse the lies of the world. Your word calls us to walk by faith, yet we walk by sight; you tell us to be strong and courageous, yet we shrink back in fear. Oh God, we confess this shameful behavior, we confess our fear-driven faithlessness, we confess that we have feared the world more than we have feared you. And it is for this reason that we come to you seeking your mercy and grace according to the eternal love you have for us in Christ. So Father, hear our cry!

Response: Father, forgive us.

IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.

My friends, though fear has gripped your hearts, know that we serve the Christ who has overcome the world. For he is the great and mighty king who is victorious over the powers of darkness, he has closed the mouths of all your enemies, and he has put the works of the evil one to open shame.  By his life, death, resurrection and ascension, Jesus the Christ, the ruler of heaven and earth, the great I AM, has set you free, and has given you the eternal hope of glory. And this is good news!

So Church, lift up your hearts and hear these words, The victorious King, the ruler of heaven and earth, has declared this day, your sins are forgiven!

Response: Thanks be to God!
