III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Corporate Call:
Lord, as the clouds of depravity gather over our heads and the flood waters of distress rise, fear grips our hearts, and anxiety and anger possesses our minds. oh God, let us not doubt the strength and faithfulness of our King, the Anchor of our souls. The lies of this world have consumed our thoughts and affections. Like the fool of ancient days, we have neglected your strength and have leaned on our own understanding.
Oh God, we confess our pride, our lack of faith, and that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed.
So we run for refuge to your infinite mercy, seeking your forgiveness and restoring grace. So in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord, hear our cry!
Response: Father, forgive us.
IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.
Beloved, though we have fallen short time and time again, though confusion and doubt have haunted your thoughts, and fear and anger have plagued your hearts. Be reminded of who it is you serve.
You serve the immovable and unshakeable God who is faithful in the storms. You serve the King of kings and Lord of lords who has entered into the tempest of your doubt and has commanded the winds and waves to cease!
He has entered the darkness of your fear and given you the light of his righteousness. He has entered into the chaos of your doubts and offers you the peace that passes all understanding.
Church, Christ has not abandoned you. He has come to you, he has atoned for you, he sings songs over you, and loves you with a love that is stronger than death.
So hear these words this morning, by the great and powerful name of Jesus I declare to you that your sins are forgiven!
Response: Thanks be to God!
