III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:
Lord, we confess that we have grievously sinned against you in word, thought, and deed. Not only in outward transgressions, but also in secret thoughts and desires which are all known to you.

Lord, we have rebelled against your holy word. We have failed to love you and we have failed to love one another. Our selfish hearts have been consumed with the lust of the eyes and flesh, and the pride of life. Our minds have wandered into the darkness of our depravity. We are in need of deliverance from these sins that so quickly ensnare our fickle hearts.

So we come to you now seeking your grace, your mercy, and your forgiveness according to the precious work of Christ.

Response: Father, forgive us.

IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!
Church, your prayers have not failed, for your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where the Great High Priest has now interceded on your behalf.

Brothers and sisters, lift up your hearts for the the great and mighty king, who is full of grace and mercy, whose faithfulness extends to a thousand generations, whose love is deeper than the deepest sea, and whose glory outshines the stars of heaven, this God, this king, has taken you out of the darkness of your sin and has brought you into the glorious light of his majesty. He has washed you clean of your sins, he has sanctified you in his Spirit, and he has Justified you in his Son. He has marked you as his own through the power of the Spirit and the waters of baptism and has promised to redeem, renew, and restore you who have fallen into sin.

So Church, lift up your hearts and hear these words and know that the risen savior has declared now and for eternity that your sins are forgiven!
