WHOEVER WOULD BE GREAT AMONG YOU . . .

I. OPENING
Song: "The Voyage of St. Brendan"

II. CALL TO WORSHIP
Reading: Psalm 28:1-2, 6-9
Call: THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD.
Response: THANKS BE TO GOD!

Song: “King Of My Heart”
Song: “O Come To The Altar”

III. CONFESSION
Individual Call: Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

Corporate Call:
Lord, hear our prayer; and let our cry come to you. Father, we confess that we have sinned against you in word, thought, and deed. Not only in outward transgressions, but also in secret thoughts and desires that dishonor you. Lord, we have placed ourselves before others, and have insisted on our own way rather than walking in yours. We have not leaned on your understanding, but have become weak and we stumble under the weight of our wayward hearts. Lord, we thank You that You bend your ear to those who call for you, we thank you that you do not withhold pardon from the repentant. So Lord, in Christ’s name, hear this prayer from your people according to your mercy:

Response: Father, forgive us.

IV. ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Arise and hear the good news!

Church, arise and stand with me, for your prayers have not failed, your confession has ascended to the right hand of the Father, where your Great High Priest, the Lord Jesus has now interceded on your behalf.

Church, because the Father sent Christ His Son to redeem you, there is therefore now no condemnation for you. Though you have not trusted in the Lord with your whole heart, Christ’s steadfast love will not forsake you.

Because you have leaned on your own understanding, He leaned beneath the weight of the cross, and He carries you. Christ the faithful One is your Redeemer, He is your intercessor and He acknowledges you before the Father.

Where the question rings out, “who will deliver me from this body of death?” His voice cries out all the louder, I will. And when you cry, wretched man that I am, who is sufficient to deliver me? The voice of the Lion of the tribe of Judah is heard, “I Am!” Church, God is for you, and because God is for you, nothing can be against you.

Nothing shall separate you from the love of God because Christ’s own hands hold you, His stretched arms bear you up and lead you to victory. Christ has conquered and He has made you conquerors, He withholds no good thing from you and neither death, nor life, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation can separate you from His love for you. This is true of you this morning whether you feel it or not.

A song is heard this morning from the right hand of the Father, a song of victory, and a cry of rejoicing. It is His delight to rejoice over you, and because He has spoken freedom, no weapon formed against you will stand. Because He has spoken liberty for captives, no judgement shall befall you. Church, hear the song that billows through the halls of heaven. Hear the declaration that is heard to the ends of the earth: it says this: Church, by the great and powerful name of Jesus, your sins are forgiven!

Response: Thanks be to God!

Song: "Cornerstone"
